The one straw revolution book5/20/2023 ![]() In this new book, through his own personal narrative, Larry Korn distills his experience of more than thirty-five years of study with Mr. Fukuoka as a leading voice in the fight against conventional industrial agriculture. The One-Straw Revolution, edited by Korn and Wendell Berry, was an immediate international success, and established Mr. Fukuoka in Japan at the time, translated the manuscript and brought it to the United States, knowing it would change the conversation about food forever. Fukuoka is perhaps most known for his bestselling book The One-Straw Revolution (1978), a manifesto on the importance of no-till agriculture, which was at the time of publication a radical challenge to the global systems that supply the world’s food, and still inspires readers today. One-Straw Revolutionary represents the first commentary on the work of the late Japanese farmer and philosopher Masanobu Fukuoka (1913 – 2008), widely considered to be natural farming’s most influential practitioner. ![]()

David hume's a treatise of human nature5/20/2023 ![]() ![]() Hume defends a sentimentalist account of morality, arguing that ethics is based on sentiment and the passions rather than reason, and famously declaring that "reason is, and ought only to be the slave to the passions". He introduces the famous problem of induction, arguing that inductive reasoning and our beliefs regarding cause and effect cannot be justified by reason instead, our faith in induction and causation is caused by mental habit and custom. Against the philosophical rationalists, Hume argues that the passions, rather than reason, cause human behaviour. Impressed by Isaac Newton's achievements in the physical sciences, Hume sought to introduce the same experimental method of reasoning into the study of human psychology, with the aim of discovering the "extent and force of human understanding". ![]() ![]() In the introduction Hume presents the idea of placing all science and philosophy on a novel foundation: namely, an empirical investigation into human nature. ![]() The Treatise is a classic statement of philosophical empiricism, scepticism, and naturalism. And yes, Spider-Man's identity reveal quickly didn't count anymore, yet that was a cool scene in of itself. The Avengers are indeed what it's all about. ![]() And how they gonna do Thor/Clor like that! Even before the MCU, it was good that Marvel was focusing on its core classic characters being a big deal. The Fantastic For particularly didn't work. It didn't always work, and seemed more about cool action movie scenes trying to be smart more than it felt like the real versions of these characters (but how else are Iron Man and Cap going to thrown down?) but it was a noble attempt. Mark Millar, in probably Marvel's last big crossover which actually felt like it had stakes and lasting impacts, basically took his Ultimates writing style and incorporated it into the mainline Marvel Universe.
